Biography

Les Kasyanov

Les Kasyanov is a staff press photographer at Lviv Regional Council documenting political life, sports events, and everyday routine of Lviv.

Les is also available for freelance assignments as a photojournalist, currently working on assignments for local and national outlets. He also covers matches of Ukrainian Rugby Federation and Ukrainian Premier League.

Over the past decade Les has been taking portraits of the eyewitnesses of the Holocaust all over Ukraine, Belarus, Poland, and Moldova on assignment for Yahad–In Unum (Paris). In 2019–2021 he made documentaries about the Jewish settlements in Southern Ukraine and the Holocaust by bullets in Kherson.

Les's work has been featured by The New York Times, The Guardian, The Times, Frankfurter Allgemeine, CNN, BBC, Der Spiegel, Newsweek, The Kyiv Independent, Al Jazeera, etc.

Les studied German literature at Taras Shevchenko University of Kyiv and photography at Viktor Marushchenko School of Photography.

Les is a member of the International Federation of Journalists and the Independent Media Trade Union of Ukraine. He speaks English, German and French besides his native Ukrainian.
